Hunger Count 2022: National Report
Food Banks Canada released their annual Hunger Count Report sharing that food bank usage across the country has increased to 1.5 million visits in March 2022, up 35% compared to pre-pandemic visits during the same time period in 2019. The Hunger Report encompasses the 4,750 + food banks across the country and is telling us that food bank usage is at the highest usage in Canadian history.

KLFS Hosts Lindsay-wide Door-to-Door Food Drive in Preparation for Thanksgiving.
The Thanksgiving Door-to-Door Food Drive will take place on Saturday, September 25 and Saturday, October 2 between 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. The town of Lindsay will be split in half along Colborne Street, same as last year.
KLFS making a stink over local food insecurity
The Challenger who raises the least amount of funds by August 27 must eat a can of Surströmming. Special ordered from Sweden, this lightly salted fermented Baltic Sea herring is known to be the “stinkiest” fish in the world.
Dunsford: KLFS Featured Food Bank
Located in the basement of the Dunsford United Church, the food bank currently serves roughly 60 individuals each month, providing hygiene products and pre-packed food hampers based on each client’s preferences.
Four volunteers recognized for outstanding service with the Barbara Truax Volunteer Award
In 2020, a group of dedicated, long-serving volunteers went above and beyond to help Kawartha Lakes Food Source (KLFS) continue functioning through the pandemic. Linda Berry, Cecylia Barr, Pat Gassien and Jennifer Styles showed great dedication in the face of unprecedented challenges, and because of this are being awarded the 2020 Barb Truax Volunteer Award.
