KLFS responds to opinion in The Lindsay Advocate

On page 13 of the September 2021 The Lindsay Advocate, a summary of the study Take the money and run: how food banks became complicit with Walmart Canada's hunger producing employment practices called for Kawartha Lakes Food Source to reject partnerships with large corporations. Executive Director Heather Kirby responded on page 13 of the November 2021 issue .

Food banks bridge the gap between need and policy. Until policy changes, we are going to continue to be here. Policy action and change is the only way to end food insecurity.

Your educated opinion counts regarding changes to policies that effect food security. Your voice can be heard through your vote at the provincial and municipal elections in 2022.

Feed Ontario suggests the following ways to take action on hunger and poverty:

  1. Learn about the issues in our community (research, read and become active in the field)

  2. Educate friends and family (talk with family, friends and coworkers about the actions we can take towards positive change)

  3. Advocate for policy changes (contact your MP, MPP, and municipal representatives by email, phone or social media)
