HOW TO DONATE TO KAWARTHA LAKES FOOD SOURCE DURING COVID-19

In the wake of COVID-19, food banks across the City of Kawartha Lakes are struggling to meet the increased need for food and other essentials in their communities. March 2020 saw around 500 additional individuals access food bank services in our city. This is a 44% overall increase in individuals from February to March.

In the coming weeks and months, as individuals and families continue to be laid off, use up what savings they might have, and incur debts in order to meet their current needs, we expect our individuals served to continue to rise. That being said, the need will not end when the pandemic does. Recovering from lost wages, savings, and incurred debts will be a long process for many individuals and families. Food banks will continue to support these people as they get themselves back on their feet.

It is only with the support of our community that we can continue to ensure that no individual or family is left unable to feed themselves during this pandemic. Here is a list of ways to support the Kawartha Lakes Food Source during this time.

Follow our social media accounts and share updates!

Due to the uncertain times, things change quite rapidly. Any and all updates we have about food bank operations and donation opportunities, will be posted on our accounts as they come up. For example, there are two community led food drives taking place currently!

We also are during planning a larger drive thru food drive for May. The date and details about this food drive will be put on our social media accounts as arrangements are confirmed.

Current neighborhood food drives in operation:

Porch food drive by Kerri Murphy

This community led drive will continue every Monday for the foreseeable future. Each Monday, a collection table will be placed on the front porch at 45 Cambridge Street North, Lindsay (N/W corner of Wellington St./Cambridge Street N) between 10:00 a.m and 3:00 p.m.

Donors wishing to participate are asked to leave all items in plastic grocery bags and follow proper social distancing to reduce risk for all. The drop off location is supervised, and once a substantial quantity of items are collected, they are delivered directly to KLFS for distribution.

Thank you so much to Kerri, Julie, and the rest of the neighbourhood for putting this drive together.

*Please note that due to COVID-19 our distribution centre and offices are not currently open to the public for drop in donations.

If you have any additional questions about donating, please phone us at 705-324-0707 or email info@kawarthalakesfoodsource.com.

Thank you so much for taking the time to think of us, and donate during such a challenging time. We truly could not do what we do without support from people like you.
