Kawartha Lakes Food Source opens their own food bank, The Lindsay Community Food Market.

On Monday, March 11, 2019, community members and volunteers gathered at Calvary Pentecostal Church to open the Lindsay Community Food Market. Kawartha Lakes Food Source (KLFS) General Manager Heather Kirby was excited to introduce their own food bank, the Lindsay Community Food Market, and celebrated the dedicated effort of Capacity Boost Coordinator Leah Anderson, the steering committee and volunteers.

Anderson explained “We have named this food bank the Lindsay Community Food Market because we want our name to convey that it is like coming to the grocery store. Clients will shop our shelves, choosing their own foods.” The shopping model is all about giving clients choices, increasing client dignity and respecting people.

The Lindsay Community Food Market will open on March 14. The Food Market is open Mondays from 9am to 12pm, Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 12pm. Once registered, clients are assigned market dollars and can drop in during operating hours to shop. For more information about registration or our market, dollars contact the Food Market at lindsaycommunityfoodmarket@gmail.com
